Master’s thesis explores the strategies used by companies

Kaushik Eshwar Sriraman, Master’s Thesis
Strategic Insights for Competitive Advantage through Connected Products

Kaushik Eshwar Sriraman’s Master’s thesis explores the strategies used by companies for monetizing their capabilities to connect with products in order to establish a competitive advantage. Through this study, he also illustrates the benefits that connected products bring to the everyday lives of the people using these strategies.

Sriraman collects his findings into a framework of strategic insights based on a study of companies and their connected products. Through these insights, he outlines the opportunities provided by connected products in terms of how services are designed, and in turn, how companies establish strategic significance for themselves. These insights include design for convenience, positive behavior change, new business models, service platforms and for transparency. The thesis, although advocating the benefits of connected products, also touches upon the threats and challenges of dealing with the large volume of data produced through connected products.
