Cleaning Water with Nanomaji honoured as best video in campaign

The campaign aimed at showcasing how the higher education, research and innovation can be used to realise dreams and make the world a better place.
Aalto University students Emma-Sofie Kukkonen and Luca Acito from the Nanomaji team were on hand to accept the first-place prize of 5 000 euros

Aalto University’s video, entitled Cleaning Water with Nanomaji, was honoured as the best entry to CESAER’s video campaign at a ceremony held on 19 October at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

The Nanomaji video depicts a multidisciplinary group of students at work during their visit to Tanzania and the development of an innovative low-cost water filter. Aalto University students Emma-Sofie Kukkonen and Luca Acito from the Nanomaji team were on hand to accept the first-place prize of 5 000 euros from European Commissioner Tibor Navracsics and the jury’s student member Jolan Hanssen. Lund University’s entry was chosen as the runner up, while the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) took third place.

The CESAER network’s steAAAm it! campaign aimed at showcasing how the higher education, research and innovation of the network’s member institutions can be used to realise dreams and make the world a better place. The steAAAm campaign’s name is short for Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Arts And Mathematics. For the campaign, each of the network’s member institutions – over 50 in total – was asked to produce a two-minute video. Starting in Februrary, a new video was published every week on the campaign’s YouTube channel.
