Content and structure of the minor
An international minor consists of studies relevant to the student’s degree that are completed during an exchange period abroad. In addition to new knowledge, an international minor provides the student with language, multicultural interaction and independent working skills gained while studying and living abroad.
The purpose of the international minor is to incorporate a study module that provides the student with global competencies into the student’s degree, building a strong international dimension in the student’s professional profile.
The international minor may include studies other than major studies, and studies in the language and culture of the host country, to be completed during the exchange period. The minimum scope of vocationally-oriented courses is 15 ECTS, while the maximum scope of the host-country language and culture studies is 10 ECTS.
The student is expected to select the vocationally-oriented courses in a single field or otherwise ensure that they form a coherent whole that clearly provides the student with new knowledge. The student should discuss the contents of the international minor in advance with the planning officer and professor their degree programme. The student is permitted to supplement the international minor after the exchange period by completing studies at Aalto University. Courses suitable for this purpose include intercultural communication courses at the Language Centre, for example. The international minor will be entered into the student register with the grade ‘Pass’.
