Content and structure of the minor
An individual minor is an option for students who are otherwise unable to find a minor that supports their objectives at Aalto University. If a suitable minor is offered at another Finnish university, students should primarily seek to complete a minor there by means of a flexible right to study (JOO) or otherwise.
The individual minor cannot be miscellaneous set of unconnected courses. Instead, it must form a justifiable whole which clearly supports the learning outcomes of the student’s degree and can be assigned a descriptive name.
Before beginning their studies towards the individual minor, students must obtain approval for it as part of the personal study plan (HOPS) process. To do so, they must submit a free-format application to the planning officer of the programme. The structure and contents of the individual minor are approved by the teacher in charge in accordance with the policy outlined above.
