Critical Pedagogies and Mediations of Art (minor)

The Critical Pedagogies and Mediations of Art minor focuses on pedagogical facilitations and mediations of diverse groups of people in/with/through art and by utilizing various forms of cultural engagement. Notions of democratic education, diversity arts education, activism and solidarity, infleuncing and engaging people in actions are explored through alternative course options. Also the notions of economics and artrpreneurship are explored as these relate to the ethics and cutlures of professional practices.

1. Understands and utilizes the potential for arts and culture in influencing people and in initiating action. Is able to engage people in collectively and utilizes art and pedagogy critically and ethically.
2. Plans and utilizes methods learnt from arts pedagogy, activism and arts mediation relying on theory and understanding the social and political context of and conditions for praxis.
3. Applies safer spaces and democratic principles when working with diverse groups of people.
4. Plans, facilitates and mediates utilizing technology and considerate of sustainability.

Content and structure of the minor

The Critical pedagogies and mediations of Art minor focuses on pedagogical facilitations and mediations of diverse groups of people in/with/through art and by utilizing various forms of cultural engagement. Notions of democratic education, diversity arts education, civil engagement, civil disobedience, activism, solidarity and hospitality, infleuncing and engaging people in actions are explored through alternative course options. Also the notions of economics and artrpreneurship are explored as these relate to the ethics and cultures of professional practices.

Learning outcomes:

Structure of the minor

Selection of courses (18-24 cr) based on HOPS/PSP, student's professional interests and student's major or programme. 

Students are recommended to include AXM-E9001 Critical Issues in Art, Education and Society and AXM‐E3007 Strange Economics in the minor.
