5-8 students are admitted in Spring. If there are applicants with equal credentials, ELO and ARTS students are prioritized.

Application instructions for Aalto University students
NOTE: The courses offered by the Department of Film are piloting semester-based course registration.
For the academic year 2025-2026, the registration periods for courses in the Department of Film are as follows:
For the autumn semester (periods 1 and 2), registration is open from Mon 28th July to Mon 18th August.
For the spring semester (periods 3 to 5), registration is open from Mon 17th November to Mon 8th December.
If you did not notice the different registration period for courses in periods 1 and 2 in Sisu, please contact the student services at studentservices@aalto.fi.
The student must submit a motivation letter and a preliminary plan for minor subject studies in the application.
Content and structure of the minor
Target group: For bachelor's and master's students, ELO and Aalto ARTS students, University of the Arts Students, all students of Aalto University.

Content
The minor gives an overview of the versatile possibilities of animation expression. During the studies, it is possible to focus on a particular trend, technology or aspect of animation according to the student's learning objectives.
Learning outcomes
The student deepens and complements the understanding of their own major through minor studies. The student learns the basic concept of dramaturgy and begins to apply dramaturgy to various narrative aspects of film. The student learns to analyze and use a variety of audiovisual styles of film and television.
Structure
The minor goes through the animation production process, starting from the basics of animation expression, through ideas to production.

Kiintiöt ja rajoitukset: Sivuaineeseen valitaan 5-8 opiskelijaa keväisin. Mikäli tasavertaisia hakijoita on enemmän, priorisoidaan elokuvataiteenpääaineopiskelijat ja ARTSin opiskelijat.

Sivuaineen sisältö
Sivuaine tarjoaa opiskelijalle monipuolisen kuvan animaatioilmaisun mahdollisuuksista. Kurssisisällöissä on mahdollista painottaa tiettyä suuntausta, tekniikkaa tai animaation osa-aluetta opiskelijan oppimistavoitteiden mukaan.
Osaamistavoitteet
Opiskelija syventää ja täydentää oman pääaineensa ymmärrystä sivuainekokonaisuuden kautta. Opiskelija oppii dramaturgian peruskäsitteistöä sekä alkaa soveltaa dramaturgiaa elokuvan eri osa-alueiden audiovisuaalisessa kerronnassa. Opiskelija oppii analysoimaan ja käyttämään elokuvan ja television erilaisia audiovisuaalisia tyylikeinoja ja kerrontametodeja.
Sivuaineen rakenne
Sivuaineessa käydään järjestyksessä läpi animaatiotuotannon prosessi, animaatioilmaisun lähtökohdista ideoiden kautta tuotantoon.
