5-8 students are admitted in Spring. If there are applicants with equal credentials, ELO and ARTS students are prioritized.

NOTE: The courses offered by the Department of Film are piloting semester-based course registration.
In the academic year 2026–2027, the Department of Film’s course registration periods are:
For autumn semester (periods 1 and 2): Mon 27 July 2026 – Mon 17 August 2026
For spring semester (periods 3–5): Mon 16 November 2026 – Mon 7 December 2026

The student must submit a motivation letter and a preliminary plan for minor subject studies in the application.
Content and structure of the minor
Target group: For bachelor's and master's students, ELO and Aalto ARTS students, University of the Arts Students, all students of Aalto University.

Content
The minor gives an overview of the versatile possibilities of animation expression. During the studies, it is possible to focus on a particular trend, technology or aspect of animation according to the student's learning objectives.
Learning outcomes
The student deepens and complements the understanding of their own major through minor studies. The student learns the basic concept of dramaturgy and begins to apply dramaturgy to various narrative aspects of film. The student learns to analyze and use a variety of audiovisual styles of film and television.
Structure
The minor goes through the animation production process, starting from the basics of animation expression, through ideas to production.
