Academic Affairs Committee

The Aalto University Academic Affairs Committee is a joint, university-level administrative body consisting of several members. It serves to promote a high quality of research, teaching, and artistic activity.

The Academic Affairs Committee decides on the university’s curriculum, degree requirements, and criteria for student selection, other general rules involving teaching, research, and artistic activity, and it appoints the required bodies to conduct research and teaching.

Furthermore, the committee appoints the members of the university board. The Chair of the Committee is the president or another person designated by the president.

The Academic Affairs Committee may, by its sole decision, transfer the tasks listed above to the Academic Affairs Committees of the Schools, excluding the responsibility for appointing the university board.

 

Members of the Academic Affairs Committee 2019

Nine (9) members of the committee shall represent the professors, six (6) other research and teaching staff and other staff and four (4) students. The deputy members shall be appointed in proportion the number of full members. The members of all of the above-mentioned groups shall represent each of the university’s three areas of expertise: business, technology, and art and design.

Board Nomination Committee

The Board Nomination Committee prepares the University Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) decision on the election of the Board members.

The Nomination Committee is appointed by the Aalto University Academic Affairs Committee (AAC). The Nomination Committee has five members, two of whom represent the other founding members of the university than the State of Finland. The Nomination Committee must enjoy the confidence of the University Academic Affairs Committee and the respect of the university community. The committee members shall represent expertise in each of the university’s fields: technology, business and art and design. The term of the Nomination Committee is one year. The committee elects a chair and a vice chair among its members.

Members of the present Board Nomination Committee are Professor Yrjö Neuvo (chair), and L.Sc. Mervi Karikorpi representing the founders as well as Professor Sanna Syri (technology), Professor Virpi Tuunainen (business) and Professor Martti Raevaara (art and design) representing each of the university’s fields. The secretary of the Committee is Development Director Sirkku Linna.
