Training for teachers: The art of explaining science, registration until 22.10.2021

Unite! Teaching and Learning offers 12 pedagogical training sessions for Aalto University teachers including PhDs and post-docs with teaching responsibility. The art of explaining science takes place on 5 November and 10 December. Workload is 12 hours including presentations, teamwork, and video production with simple tools.

Unite! Teaching and Learning is a series of training activities aimed at teaching staff, lecturers and faculty in all Unite! partner institutions (including Ph.D. students and postdocs involved with teaching), who are interested in sharing and developing teaching and learning practices. We invite you to meet Unite! colleagues while learning how teaching and learning is promoted at different partner universities.

The training is run by Dr. Ulrike Homann and Dr. Annette Glathe from TU Darmstadt. The learning outcomes include:

  • analyse explanations from several fields of research,

  • develop and optimize own explanations using principles that enhance students’ understanding,

  • create an explanatory video with simple tools,

  • prompt students’ self-explanations.

The activities – webinars, courses and training events – are run by pedagogical experts from the partner universities and are free of charge for the Unite! community. All “Unite! Teaching and Learning” activities are in English. Some of the activities will award credits.
