Semantic Web 20 Years in Finland Jubilee

This seminar reviews the 20-year-old history and future of the Semantic Web internationally and in Finland.

Twenty years ago, on Nov 2, 2001, the Semantic Web Kick-off in Finland seminar was organized in Finland, which ignited research and development work in at the University of Helsinki and Aalto University together with some 50 collaborating Finnish Cultural Heritage and other organizations. This seminar reviews the 20-year-old history and future of the Semantic Web internationally and in Finland. The keynote talk "Semantic Web: A 20-year perspective" is given in English by Professor Pascal Hitzler, Kansas State University, director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDS) at 16:00-17:00 (15:00-16.00 CET). He is a leading researcher in the field and has, e.g., established its most cited journal Semantic Web. Before this, experiences in developing the Finnish Semantic Web infrastructure and applications in 2001-2021 are presented in Finnish by representatives from various Finnish organizations.
