This thesis focuses on the novel two-dimensional (2D) materials for photonic applications, such as 2D ternary semiconductor: indium-selenide-bromide (InSeBr), 1D single-element semiconductor: fibrous red phosphorus (FRP), and the novel interlayer interaction in phosphorene (BP)/graphene heterostructure. The thesis contains six chapters. The first chapter gives an introduction of 2D materials and their potential applications in the field of photonics. The second chapter introduces the fundamentals of 2D materials, including typical 2D materials and their vdW heterostructures, fabrication and characterization of 2D materials. The third-fifth chapters discuss my three research topics in my PhD period. In the third chapter, a novel 2D ternary semiconductor material InSeBr is introduced and the interesting exciton-phonon coupling phenomenon is investigated in details. In the fourth chapter, I focus on a novel 1D single-element semiconductor material FRP with huge optical anisotropy and quantum conversion efficiency. The fifth chapter is about the theoretical research of the novel interlayer interaction in BP/graphene vdW heterostructure. Finally, I summarize the whole contents and give an outlook on the future research interests in the last chapter.
