Dae-Su (Choi Min-sik) is suddenly imprisoned in a cell resembling a hotel room, with no explanation for his captivity. After being released 15 years later, he embarks on a path of revenge filled with brutal violence and hidden conspiracies. Oldboy won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004 from a jury led by Quentin Tarantino, which also included Peter von Bagh — the only Finn ever to serve on a Cannes jury.
