Mass effect in nuclear fusion: tokamak reactors perform better with heavier fuel

Paavo Niskala, M.Sc.(Tech.), will defend the dissertation "Simulations of turbulence-flow interplay in tokamak plasmas – Gyrokinetic studies of isotope effect on turbulent transport and flows in Ohmic discharges" on 5 October 2018 at 12 noon at the Aalto University School of Science, lecture hall M1, Otakaari 1, Espoo. The dissertation studies the impact of fuel particle mass on turbulent losses and flows in fusion plasmas. The experimentally measured mass effect is replicated in advanced computer simulations for the first time.

Opponent: Research Professor Carlos Hidalgo, Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), Spain

Custos: Professor Mathias Groth, Aalto University School of Science, Department of Applied Physics
