Join Aalto University & Aalto Sustainability Hub for a refreshing campus walk on Friday 30.10.2020 at 12:00-12:45! During the walk, you will get to know sustainable campus design and planning principles, and learn about effects green areas have on well-being and how nature acts as a mirror for cultural history, among other things.
Aalto University’s campus is exceptionally lush and forested. The verdant nature is one of the key attractions of Otaniemi area and the landscape is a key driver for developing an inviting and sustainable campus.
Greener urban environments are proven to advance people’s well-being. The different natural environments around the campus improve people’s health, vitality, creativity, productivity and innovativeness. It has been found that for example taking a walk outdoors can reduce one’s stress and lower their blood pressure. Trees provide shelter from the wind, store carbon and often enhance the economic value of surrounding buildings. At the end of the day, preserving biodiversity is crucial for humankind’s future.
The campus walk is organized on Friday 30.10. at 12:00-12:45. We will meet at the oak in front of Väre (School of Arts) on Aalto University’s campus. The oak is roughly 50 meters away from the Aalto University metro station’s A exit (Otaniementie 12).
The walk takes place outdoors, so make sure to wear appropriate clothing. The walk lasts for approximately 45 minutes and starts and ends at the same place.
The walk is guided by Landscape Architect Aapo Pihkala, who is a Project Manager at Aalto University’s campus development team. The walk is open to all and free to attend, but requires registering prior to the event.
Sign-up for the walk by emailing Aapo Pihkala (email address in a form: [email protected]). Please include any special requests in the message.
