Part 1: Technological education begins (19th century)

Many new educational institutions were founded in Europe during the first half of the 19th century to support the increasingly industrial economy.

Technology education in Finland began in the 1840s, fashioned after the model used in German-speaking Europe. The new Helsinki Technical School would become the cradle for technology education and research in Finland.
