Design Culture brings together academics in the Department of Design who explore the significance of design in contemporary society. The Research Group is concerned with the interrelationships of sociocultural products, practices and discourses. Its objects of study cross between material, visual, spatial and digital formats. These are taken to exist at various scales in different locations.

Design Culture Studies is a cross-disciplinary specialism, overlapping and interacting with a range of critical perspectives, methods and knowledge generated through the social sciences and humanities. The Design Culture Research Group researchers are typically engaged in research-driven writing, educating, curating and making and are particularly interested in the conjunctions of analysis, understanding and creative practices. It aims to provoke discussion and critical reflection, bringing new conversations to design and society.
