Master's thesis position on the uncanny valley hypothesis

Uncanny valley hypothesis (Mori, 1970) claims that people tend to dislike robots or virtual characters that look too much like real humans. Even though this hypothesis has raised a lot of interest in the media and various research fields, its empirical evidence still remains surprisingly inconsistent. We are looking for a MSc thesis worker, who would take part in carrying out basic research on this hypothesis in the Art & Magic research group led by Prof. Tassu Takala. We have already published several studies related to the uncanny valley, including an empirical research review.

In this paid position your tasks will include developing new research stimuli, designing and carrying out an experiment with human participants to test specific research hypotheses, and analyzing the collected data.
