Dress code for the School of Arts, Design and Architecture 2019 Ceremonial Conferment

The dress codes for Doctors, Masters and invited guests at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture are listed below. Information about the Doctoral hats is also provided here. Masters and Doctors have different dress codes.
Ceremonial Conferment of Doctoral Degrees in 2013 at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture

Dress Code for Doctors
 

1. DOCTORAL HAT:

Every Doctor (except Honorary Doctors) orders and pays for his/her own Doctoral hat. Kindly order your hat as soon as possible from your hat maker. The hats are hand tailored, and thus require time to make (from four to ten weeks this spring, as an estimate).

The School of Arts, Design and Architecture has a special lyre pin made of spectrolite for the hat. Thus, please order a hat without a lyre pin. The hatmakers will attach the spectrolite lyre pin to your hat. The lyre pin costs you 124 € (incl. VAT 24%). The lyre pins are handmade and unique. This is a subsidized price by the school. Informal dress: single or double-breasted suit
Formal academic dress: tailcoat, black waistcoat, white gloves, black leather shoes (not patent leather), dark socks, no white pocket handkerchief, white bow tie
Evening dress: white tie: tailcoat , white waistcoat, white gloves, patent leather shoes, dark socks, white bow tie, white pocket handkerchief

Women:
Informal dress: dress, suit or trouser suit
Formal academic dress: full-length gown, in the day ceremony the long sleeves of the dress should cover the arms; no fur.
Evening dress: the evening gown of the promovendi includes long gloves. The gloves are pulled off when the dinner is served, but the inauguration toast is made with the gloves on. Put the gloves back on when going to dance or when leaving the table. Bracelets are worn over the gloves, rings inside.

DOCTORAL HATS are mandatory for doctoral promovendi on the day of the conferment ceremony, 13 June 2019, both in the daytime ceremonies and in the evening celebrations. Everyone else who have doctorates may wear it in all the events on the day of the ceremony.

MAJOR DECORATIONS (medals) are worn only in the daytime and evening ceremonies on the conferment day. (NOTE. No pocket handkerchief with decorations) Minor decorations are not worn in the conferment ceremonies.

DOCTORAL HAT is mandatory only for doctoral promovendi on the day of the conferment ceremony on 13 June 2019, both in daytime ceremonies and in the evening celebrations. Everyone else who have doctorates may wear it in all the events on the day of the ceremony.
Women: Female guests, if they wear a doctoral hat, must then also wear a long gown. The doctoral hat is not to be donned before the Conferrer of Degrees gives the permission.
