What should I write in my manuscript's Methods section?

Here is an example:

(Functional) magnetic resonance imaging experiments were performed on a 3 T MAGNETOM Skyra whole-body scanner (Siemens Healthcare, Erlangen, Germany), using a standard 20-channel head-neck coil.

Type of the scanner

MAGNETOM Skyra 3.0 T (Siemens, Erlangen)

  • 70 cm Open Bore

Software

  • Syngo MR D13C

Gradients

Performance, each axis:

  • Max. amplitude: 45 mT/m.
  • Min. rise time: 225 us.
  • Max. slew rate: 200 T/m/s.

The gradients can be run in three different modes depending on the chosen pulse sequence: fast / normal / whisper:

  • Gradient maximum amplitude: 24 / 22 / 22 [mT/m]
  • Gradient minimum rise time: 5.55 / 10 / 20 [us/(mT/m)]
  • Gradient maximum slew rate: 180.18 / 100 / 50 [mT/(m*ms)]

Proton Larmor frequency

  • 123.2466 MHz

Injection system

  • Medrad Spectris MR injector

Coils

Following RF-coils are available at the AMI centre:

Head coils Other coils
  • 20 channel head/neck coil, receiving
  • 30 channel head coil, receiving
  • 32 channel head coil, receiving
  • body, transmitting and receiving
  • 4 channel flex coils (large and small), receiving

32 channel head coil and 20 channel head/neck coil have coil elements close to subject's eyes which can limit the binocular field of view which should be taken into account when designing your experiment. Please see the following PDF-document for further details.

In addition, AMI centre has a custom modified 30 channel head coil which offers a free binocular field of view. See the following PDF-document for further details.
