Platform economy and global marketplaces are currently shaping the field of trade

The project supported by Business Finland took almost three years to complete and was concluded at the end of August.

The GlobaMa research project aimed at producing new and practical information and know-how about the structures, operating logics and management methods of global marketplaces and their surrounding ecosystems. The project examined the functioning of trading venues and ecosystems and the critical factors contributing to their success in a very comprehensive manner. The key focus was on practical issues.

A central goal of the project was to identify commercial opportunities linked with the marketplaces both locally and internationally. The second aim was to find practical solutions and operating models that would enable Finnish operators to develop and take advantage of these marketplaces in their business.

The research project was carried out by analysing the successful and dramatically grown global marketplaces. These leading marketplaces were studied in depth in the hope of identifying the best industry practices and innovative solutions for developing and managing marketplaces. Professors and researchers from Aalto University School of Business as well as international experts were responsible for the practical implementation of the project.

Observations and conclusions made during the process have been described in an article published on the eComGrowth website: https://ecomgrowth.fi/globaalit-markkinapaikat-muokkaavat-nyt-voimakkaasti-kaupan-alaa/ (Link in Finnish)

In addition, a book was published by Springer in accordance with the project:
Smedlund, A., Lindblom, A. & Mitronen, L. (eds.) (2018) Collaborative Value Co-creation in the Platform Economy, Translational Systems Sciences, Springer.

The book covers a broad range of different aspects of the platform economy and offers up-to-date information for both researchers and business managers.
