U-Create Symposium: Teaching Art and Design Across Disciplines
Art and design can be integrated in the education of different disciplines. However, this integration is a complex process that does not happen automatically. This time U-Create seminar focuses on what takes place inside the class-rooms.
The aim is to develop Aalto University’s creative pedagogy by sharing experiences. We want to create a community of teachers that are interested in new ways of learning and advanced transdisciplinary pedagogy.
Join our community for new ways of teaching
What does transdisciplinary teaching require pedagogically? What does it mean to be exposed to other study and design cultures and vocabularies without means of creating deeper level dialogue? How do the game-changer teachers get their messages across? What things do not work? How they have shifted their teaching? What kind of challenges they have confronted? What are the hot topics to teach that are relevant in the sustainable future?
The symposium does not provide clear answers, but rather invites to reflect teaching with people who share the same interest. In each session, we will have two teachers to share and discuss their work.

The aim of the day is to develop our own thinking as well as showcase the interesting things we do at Aalto. U-create symposium is the place to learn best practices from each others as well as support creation of new methods and outcomes for transdisciplinary learning.
Aalto University promotes art and creativity in all disciplines and communities. One of our targets is to renew society through art, creativity and design. University-Wide Art Studies (UWAS) and Design Inside will organize a one-day symposium on teaching art and design in universities today. In addition to ARTS faculty, we’re targeting this event to everyone who’s interested bringing art and design pedagogies in any of Aalto’s engineering and business schools.
