School of Engineering Technical Services

Technical Services can help you with using the research and education infrastructure of the School of Engineering.

Technical Services at the School of Engineering (ENG TSS) are provided by a staff of nearly fifty professionals. Unlike other Aalto schools, ENG TSS personnel mainly work at departments due to their specialised subject-matter knowledge.

The main tasks of ENG TSS are:

  • the use, maintenance and development of research and education infrastructure (i.e. laboratories),
  • guidance and support for students and researchers for using devices, test facilities and co-operation projects; and
  • the preparation of test set-ups and samples, occasionally including performing tests, analysis and support for reporting.

The majority of the available equipment can be found in the booking system under Aalto i3. See below for contact details for technical services at the school's departments and premises.

ENG Workshop

The ENG Workshop provides machines for working with metal and wood. The workshop works in conjunction with the Advanced Manufacturing and Materials research group and is located in the K2 building at Puumiehenkuja 3.

The workshop serves research and education conducted at Aalto University and the School of Engineering. As its resources allow, the workshop may also take on assignments from other units of Aalto University or customers outside the university.

The ENG Workshop also maintains the materials storage MAKE. MAKE operations will be scaled back during 2021–2022 due to renovations at Puumiehenkuja 5.
