MeTISQ (2020-2024)

Metrology Research Institute is involved in project MeTISQ: “Metrology for Testing the Implementation Security of Quantum Key Distribution Hardware”.

MeTISQ aims to develop robust, SI-traceable measurements, at the single-photon level, to characterise quantum key distribution (QKD) systems (assembled transmitter and receiver modules) and technologies aligned with the actual standardisation development work of the ETSI Industry Specification Group on QKD.

Aalto participates in the work package 1 (WP1), Metrology for implementation security of detectors in QKD receiver modules. WP1 aims to develop certifiable methods for the characterisation and the prevention of hardware vulnerabilities in practical QKD systems. Implementation security aims to study the vulnerabilities of QKD systems and to develop the most suitable techniques to remove them. Aalto contributes to prepare, characterise and calibrate a compact pulsed light source, laser or LED, for characterising gated InGaAs/InP SPAD detectors at a wavelength of 1550 nm.
