Learning outcomes
After passing the course the student will be able to
- recognize the need of basic geometric concepts on their own field of expertise
- distinguish between internal and external properties of geometric objects
- share basic skills for calculating local geometric quantities
- deduce global conclusions from local quantities
Content
Curves in the plane and space, curvature and torsion of a curve, global theory of curves. Surfaces in the Euclidean space, first and second fundamental form, curvature of a surface, Gauss map. Gauss-Bonnet theorem for surfaces.
