Ranja Hautamäki is Associate Professor in Landscape Architecture at Aalto University, Finland. Her research and teaching field is Landscape Planning and Society. Ranja´s research critically evaluates the discursive frameworks and develops quantification methods and operational practices of urban green-space planning to address societal challenges related to climate change and biodiversity loss. Ranja has a 13-year professional background in leading landscape planning at the City of Tampere. Her dissertation was the first PhD by a landscape architect at Aalto University, paving the way for landscape-architectural research in Finland.

Lappset scholarship

The Lappset scholarship is a prize for the year's best thesis in landscape architecture. It is awarded annually to the author of a meritorious thesis in the Landscape Architecture programme at Aalto University. The prize amounts to EUR 2 000 and is donated by Lappset Group Oy.<br/><br/>The thesis was supervised by Professor Ranja Hautamäki and Landscape Architect Pauliina Korhonen. The work was done as part of the research project Saari Manor House — on the other side of sustainability, funded by Aalto University and the Kone Foundation.
