Integrating transport with other land uses: policy mixes and calibrations

A lecture by professor Dominic Stead from Aalto University will be held on the 14th of April, at 2pm EET (local time in Helsinki) online on Zoom.

Summary: An important way of promoting more sustainable patterns of urban development is integrating transport with other land uses so that we can make more efficient use of limited resources, especially land, energy and materials. Integration can also help to create more attractive and liveable cities in which to live and work. Three aspects of integration are crucial. The first is the combination of mutually-supportive land uses in the city. The second aspect is linking urban land uses with transport infrastructure. The third aspect of integration is making sure that different transport modes and their infrastructure connect with each other. This requires both physical integration and operational integration. Integrating transport with other land uses requires close attention to policy mixes and policy calibration. While these issues have been discussed in theory more work needs to be done to translate them into practice.

More information on the event will follow soon.
