Electrical quantum conductors coupled to microwave resonators have in the last decade emerged as a versatile testbed for controllable light-matter interaction on the nanometer scale. In this talk, I will discuss different aspects of photon emission and absorption during electrical transport in nanoscale quantum dots embedded in microwave resonators. First, I will present our recent [1] theoretical investigation of the joint statistics of transported electrons and emitted photons in a single level quantum dot coupled to a microwave resonator, for arbitrarily large dot-resonator coupling. Second, I will present some preliminary experimental results, obtained by the Maisi group in Lund, and related theoretical analysis, of microwave photon absorption in a nanowire double quantum dot coupled to a resonator [2]. Both topics motivate further fundamental, experimental as well as theoretical, investigations of strong electron-photon interactions at the nanoscale.
