Otsikko: High frequency oscillations as biomarkers for epilepsy surgery in intracranial EEG, but not only!

Abstrakti: Neurophysiological assessment in epilepsy patients currently suffers of reliable biomarkers for the identification of the epileptogenic zone to support optimal surgical intervention. High frequency oscillations (HFOs) are recognized as biomarkers for epileptogenic brain tissue. A remaining challenge for epilepsy surgery is the prospective classification of tissue sampled by individual electrode contacts. In this presentation I describe the automated detection of HFO in intracranial EEG recordings and the predictive value of HFO with respect to seizure outcome. Finally, I discuss the challenge and the potential of HFO detection in non- invasive recordings.

Bio: Dr. Tommaso Fedele received his PhD from TU Berlin, Germany, where he studied high frequency oscillations in low noise EEG: from spike-like activity to non invasive recodings. After a post-doc at the University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland, where he worked on invasive EEG recordings in epilepsy patients, he has now joined the MEG group at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience of the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia. His main interest is the development of neurophysiological biomarkers for epilepsy surgery.
