Pedro Vilaça (b. 1969) is Ph.D from the Technical University of Lisbon and is Associate Professor (tenured) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Aalto University since March 2013, where he is the head of the Engineering Materials research group. Before, Pedro Vilaça was Assistant Professor with permanent contract, at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST-Lisbon), since September 2003. His main research focus is on Welding Technology, including solid and fusion state processing domains with conventional and advanced techniques. Other research interests include non-destructive testing (NDT) technology, coating and surface processing, adhesive technology, materials science, mechanical design, computational mechanics and product development. During his career, he has built a large collaboration network with scientists all around the world. Pedro Vilaça has mature experience in leading R&D teams on welding and NDT related tasks in several R&D projects related with transport industry issues. Supervisor of 6 completed PhD students, 5 ongoing PhD thesis and over 50 MSc students.

Responsible of projects on fundamental science and support of industrial activities with research and technological development. Pedro Vilaça is also responsible for projects on commercialization of innovative technological solutions, and co-Founder of LENNAHC Oy a spinoff from Aalto since June 2018.

Pedro Vilaça (ORCID iD: 0000-0003-4749-3036) has h-index = 17 (Scopus and Web of Science), 24 (Google Scholar). In terms of publication record, has 1 book, 4 book chapters, 75 papers in International Journals with peer reviewing; 16 papers in National Journals; 140 communications in Conferences; 14 Patents and other IPR.
