Uusi maisteriohjelma kouluttaa vetyasiantuntijoita kestävämpien energiajärjestelmien kehitystyöhön
Hydrogen and Electric Systems -maisteriohjelma vastaa polttavimpiin työelämän tarpeisiin, kertoo ohjelmajohtaja Matti Lehtonen.
Webinaarissa ohjelman edustajat esittelevät Aalto-yliopistoa, pääainetta sekä sen rakennetta ja opintosisältöjä, uramahdollisuuksia, sekä opiskeluelämää Aallossa. Q&A-osuudessa he vastaavat osaallistujien kysymyksiin.
Energiajärjestelmät kaikkialla maailmassa ovat muuttumassa vallankumouksellisesti yhteiskuntien siirtyessä fossiilista polttoaineista uusiutuvan energian käyttöön. Tässä muutoksessa puhtaan vedyn käyttäminen energian tuotannossa ja varastoinnissa on ajankohtainen aihe.
Suomi on vihreän siirtymän edelläkävijä ja sillä on yksi maailman kunnianhimoisimmista ilmastotavoitteista: haluamme olla hiilineutraaleja vuoteen 2035 mennessä. Maamme teollisuus ja energia-ala on sitoutunut tähän tavoitteeseen ja panostaa runsaasti uudistuvaan energiaan. Samaan aikaan tarve vetypohjaisiin ratkaisuihin ja vedyn tuottamiseen erikoistuneiden insinöörien tarve kasvaa. Ilmastotavoitteeseen pääsemiseksi Suomi tarvitsee joka vuosi vähintään 200 uutta vetytalouden osaajaa, ja tarve tulee kasvamaan tulevaisuudessa.
Master’s Programme in Hydrogen and Electric Systems -maisteriohjelma antaa kattavan kuvan energia- ja vetyjärjestelmistä ja erinomaiset uranäkymät Suomessa tai ulkomailla tällä kehittyvällä alalla, joka kaipaa kipeästi uusia osaajia. Aalto-yliopisto on kehittänyt ohjelman yhteistyössä alan yritysten kanssa, joten ohjelma keskittyy teemoihin, joita yritykset pitävät tärkeimpinä ja hyödyllisimpinä. Lisäksi monet muut Aallon korkeakoulut, kuten Kauppakorkeakoulu ja Kemian tekniikan korkeakoulu, tarjoavat vetytalouteen liittyviä kursseja. Näin opiskelijat pääsevät tarkastelemaan vedyn arvoketjua monitieteisesti.

Master’s Programme in Hydrogen and Electric Systems -maisteriohjelman opetuskieli on englanti.
Aalto-yliopiston englanninkielisten maisteriohjelmien lukuvuosimaksu on 15 000 euroa/lukuvuosi. Lukuvuosimaksu peritään muilta kuin Euroopan unionin (EU) tai Euroopan talousalueen (ETA) jäsenmaiden tai Sveitsin kansalaisilta.
Aalto-yliopistolla on apurahaohjelma, jolla tuetaan lukuvuosimaksullisissa koulutusohjelmissa opiskelevia EU-/ETA-maiden ulkopuolisia opiskelijoita. Apuraha kattaa joko 50 % tai 100 % lukuvuosimaksusta.

Kaksivuotisen Master’s Programme in Hydrogen and Electric Systems -maisteriohjelman laajuus on 120 opintopistettä:
Kaikki ohjelman yhteiset opinnot ja pääaineen opinnot on tarkoitus suorittaa ensimmäisenä opiskeluvuonna. Toisena vuonna keskitytään vapaasti valittaviin opintoihin ja diplomityön tekemiseen. Voit yhdistellä tutkintoosi vapaavalintaisia opintoja joko Aallosta tai muista kotimaisista tai ulkomaisista yliopistoista, kunhan opinnot sopivat tutkintoosi ja mielenkiinnon kohteisiisi.
Ohjelman opetusmenetelmät vaihtelevat luennoista energiajärjestelmien simulointiin ja yhteistyöprojekteihin yritysten ja Aallon muiden korkeakoulujen, kuten Kauppakorkeakoulun ja Kemian tekniikan korkeakoulun kanssa.

Tässä pääaineessa saat kattavan kuvan vetytaloudesta ja sen arvoketjusta. Erityisesti keskitytään vedyn rooliin vihreässä siirtymässä sekä vetytalouden ja sähkö- ja energia-alan väliseen synergiaan.
Pääaineesta valmistuttuaan opiskelija osaa:
Tässä pääaineessa opiskelijat pääsevät kehittämään teknisiä ratkaisuja vedyn arvoketjuun – tuotannosta, kuljetuksesta, varastoinnista, muuntamisesta ja käytöstä aina sähkö- ja energia-alan kanssa vuorovaikuttamiseen. Pääpaino on sähkö- ja energia-alan tukemisella.

Aalto-yliopisto tunnetaan kansainvälisestä opiskelu- ja tutkimusympäristöstään. Aaltoon tulee vuosittain tuhansia tutkinto- ja vaihto-opiskelijoita eri puolilta maailmaa. Vedyn merkitys tulevaisuuden energiajärjestelmissä tulee kasvamaan ja alan osaajien kysyntä kasvaa maailmanlaajuisesti nopeasti. Pelkästään Suomeen tarvitaan suuri määrä vetyaiheisista koulutusohjelmista valmistuneita joka vuosi, jotta Suomi voisi olla hiilineutraali vuoteen 2035 mennessä.
Ohjelma antaa opiskelijoille tarvittavat tiedot ja taidot vedyn arvoketjun eri vaiheissa työskentelyyn aina tuotannosta ja varastoinnista siirtoon ja käyttöön. Valmistuneet voivat työllistyä mm. teknisiksi kehittäjiksi tai liiketoiminta-analyytikoiksi tai johtajiksi myöhemmin urallaan. Työnantajia voivat olla monet arvoketjun sidosryhmät kuten insinööritoimistot, konsulttifirmat ja palveluntarjoajat.

Aalto-yliopistossa tieteenalojen välinen yhteistyö on tehty helpoksi – opiskelijat voivat valita tutkintoonsa yhdistelmän tiedettä, tekniikkaa, taloutta ja taidetta. Opiskelijat voivat täydentää opintojaan esimerkiksi Aallon muiden korkeakoulujen ja ohjelmien opinnoilla ja muiden, myös ulkomaisten yliopistojen tarjoamilla opinnoilla.
Vetytalouden teemoja käsitellään useilla kursseilla muissakin Aallon korkeakouluissa, mikä antaa opiskelijoillemme mahdollisuuden saada laajan kuvan vedyn arvoketjusta. Nämä korkeakoulut myös osallistuvat Master’s Programme in Hydrogen and Electric Systems maisteriohjelman kurssien ja projektien järjestämiseen. Tämä monialaisuus synnyttää uusia ideoita ja luo ystävyyssuhteita, verkostoja ja toisinaan myös startup-yrityksiä.
Master’s Programme in Hydrogen and Electric Systems -maisteriohjelma tekee yhteistyötä myös yritysten kanssa mm. kurssiprojektien muodossa. Lisäksi Sähkötekniikan korkeakoulussa moni tekee diplomityönsä jollekin yritykselle.

Applicants are expected to have a high‐quality Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Automation, Control Engineering or Physics. Excellent candidates with degrees in other fields including but not limited to Computer Science, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Economics and Industrial Management will be considered if the applicant has sufficient studies and proven skills and knowledge in Electrical Engineering, Energy engineering, Automation, Control Engineering or Physics. Studies in the Master’s programme should provide genuinely new knowledge and further the career of the applicant. If the applicant already has a Master’s degree or is studying towards one, the motivation letter should clearly indicate why another one is necessary. In most cases, non-degree studies are recommended instead. The following background knowledge is required for the Master’s Programme:

The programme is looking for applicants with excellent academic performance in their previous studies. This will be evaluated on the basis of the Grade Point Average (GPA) and results in key courses. The time spent on the previous studies will also be taken into account. Academic performance in the previous Bachelor’s degree is emphasized. Other previous studies are considered as well but evaluation is primarily based on the bachelor level studies. Applicants who have previously studied at Aalto University, e.g. as exchange students, are also evaluated according to the grades, the number of credits obtained, as well as on the time spent on these studies. The applicants are first evaluated based on the General eligibility requirements of Aalto University. Applicants meeting the general eligibility criteria for master's studies are evaluated and ranked according to the evaluation criteria decided in advance for each study option.
The selection process for those who meet the general eligibility criteria is described next. Firstly, the applications are evaluated based on the following (critical) criteria.
Only the applications that fulfill the requirements for these criteria will be evaluated against the full set of evaluation criteria.
After the evaluation of the remaining criteria below, the best applicants will be selected based on the joint evaluation of all criteria.

In addition, applicants to this study option are requested to provide the following study-option-specific documents. Applicants are requested to pay attention to the below instructions and add all attachments. All documents and their content and quality affect the evaluation. Neglecting the document requirements or their instructions will adversely affect the evaluation of the application. Applicants should not attach/submit any extra documents. Extra documents are not taken into account in the evaluation.

The application should fully explain the educational history of the applicant. If the applicant has started or completed other studies in addition to the Bachelor's degree mentioned above, they should also provide the respective official transcripts and other possible (degree) certificates.
The motivation letter should describe why the applicant is applying to the study option and why they would be a good candidate for the study option. Applicants need to indicate which major they will choose in the Hydrogen and Electric Systems programme.
The motivation letter should be written in English. The maximum length of the motivation letter is one page. Exceeding the recommended length of the motivation letter will affect the evaluation of the application negatively. Applicants should write a separate motivation letter for each study option they apply to.
The CV should be used to provide a summary of one's personal working history, achievements, objectives and other points that one considers important for the application.
For the work and research experience, the activity and time period need to be indicated. For the international working and study experience, the working place/university, activity and time period need to be indicated. Copies or permanent weblinks of any publications and information on possible patents need to be listed.
The CV should be maximum 2 pages and follow preferably the Europass format. CVs exceeding the recommended length of the CV will affect the evaluation of application negatively.
The recommendation letter should preferably be from a university professor, lecturer or a thesis instructor who has supervised the applicant’s studies at the university. The recommendation should comment on the applicant’s suitability to the specific study option and major.
All additional application documents described above should preferably be submitted in English. If some other language than English, Finnish or Swedish is used in them, the applicant must provide precise, word-for-word translations of them.
Upload the documents to your online application form in pdf-format. Name the file(s) according to format: Name of the document-Lastname-Firstname (e.g. CV-Lastname-Firstname.pdf). Maximum file size is 1.0 GB.
The study-option-specific documents must be uploaded for each study option separately, even if you use the same document (e.g. CV). Please check carefully the study-option-specific document requirements for each study option you apply to.
The deadline for the study-option-specific application documents to be uploaded to your application form is the same as for the general application documents.
