Kirsi Yliniemi
I am a Senior University Lecturer at Department of Chemistry and Materials Science (Aalto University, Finland). Majority of my work time is related to teaching and research and I am also Director Finnish Bachelor Program "Kemian tekniikan kandidaattiohjelma" (en: Chemical engineering).
My educational activities include for example teaching in bachelor level courses such as "Materiaalien ominaisuudet" (en: Materials properties), "Nanomaterials" and "Materiaalien sähkökemiaa (en: Electrochemistry of materials"). I am also actively advising B.Sc., M.Sc and D.Sc thesis.
My main research activities include electrochemical recovery of (secondary) raw materials and formation of functional surfaces and nanomaterials from waste and side streams. I am especially interested in anything where I can utilise my electrochemistry knowedge for critical materials or functional materials. In addition to electrochemistry, I am also involved in pedagogical research (incl. virtual labs or using innovative teahcing methods like game creation) which I find highly interesting.
