Course information

Learning outcomes

After the course, the student will be able to: Describe mathematically the motion of a particle or rigid body. Calculate the forces/moments causing the motion of a particle or rigid body. Use the principles of mechanics to solve engineering problems involving a particle or rigid body in motion.

Content

Force/moment vectors, and free body diagrams Kinematics and kinetics of a particle in cartesian, and normal and tangential coordinates Kinematics and kinetics of a rigid body in translation, rotation about a fixed axis, and absolute motion. Principles of work and energy for the motion of a particle/rigid body.
