Distributed Interactive Multimedia: From Cloud Gaming to Immersive Cloud Computing
The emergence of GPU as a service has made it possible to offload graphics rendering to cloud. This is particularly attractive for mobile devices which are constrained by limited graphics processing capabilities. However, interactive multimedia services requiring real-time rendering face two major challenges when offloaded to a cloud: latency and bandwidth. In this talk, I will introduce two specific types of applications that rely on remote graphics rendering, cloud gaming and immersive cloud computing, and highlight some results that we have obtained as well as point out avenues for future research.
