Study objectives

The Master’s Programme in Information and Service Management (ISM) gives you in-depth expertise in developing and managing information-based services – one of the primary growth areas of advanced economies.

The interdisciplinary programme has a strong emphasis on data analysis and project management. The skills you learn will help you analyse the ever-growing supply of information, as well as manage new technologies and electronic business operations. As the society and businesses are increasingly dependent on computer information systems and data in them for delivering their services, the need for students with business understanding and digital service development and data analysis skills grows in the foreseeable future.

Scholarships and Tuition fees

The tuition fee is €15 000 per academic year for non-EU/EEA citizens.
Prospective students subject to tuition fees are eligible to apply for Aalto University Scholarship.

Study Language

The language of instruction is English.

Specialization fields

In the Master's Programme in Information and Service Management (ISM), you can focus on one of three areas of specialisation: Business Analytics, Information Systems, and Logistics and Service Management.

Career opportunities

As a graduate of ISM, you will have broad career prospects in the contemporary data-driven market: according to a recent Forbes study on the employability of graduates, students with information systems, statistics and math majors are the most sought after.

  •     Logistics manager

Quantitative data analysis skills are one of the growth areas in the next few years. Our graduates typically find jobs very easily, and for example information systems majors have some of the highest starting salaries of all business majors according to both Finnish and international studies.

Content of studies

Programme overview: three specialisation areas

 

In the Master's Programme in Information and Service Management (ISM), you can focus on one of three areas of specialisation: Business Analytics, Information Systems, and Logistics and Service Management.

 

Business Analytics focus helps you learn how to solve business problems with a data-driven approach. You will learn about quantitative methods, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and various techniques for analysing big, open company-owned data. The core topics covered include:

 

  •     consumer analyses in traditional and digital markets
  •     risk control, e.g. financial risk management
  •     exploitation of new technologies for developing and launching new products and services

 

Information Systems focus helps you learn how to manage and develop business processes using the most suitable information systems and networks. The core topics covered include:

 

  •     business information systems
  •     digital service development
  •     digital strategy

 

Logistics and Service Management focus helps you learn how to manage and develop companies’ complex logistics chains in the network economy. The core topics covered include:

 

  •     supply chain management in various operating environments
  •     service development and operations
  •     inventory management models and policies
  •     quality management
  •     project management
  •     different business models
  •  

Upon graduating from the program, you will be able to:

 

  •     use and develop analytics and business intelligence in organisations
  •     apply quantitative and data driven marketing
  •     analyse and develop business models for digital and service business
  •     analyse and develop services
  •     lead people and projects
  •     design research
