Advancing understanding on engine ignition physics and chemistry through computational modeling of diesel spray assisted ignition of hydrogen-methane fuel blends.

This research investigates the interactive chemistry and physics relevant to spray-assisted ignition, specifically dual-fuel and tri-fuel spray-assisted ignition phenomena with relevance to compression ignition engines. The study employs advanced computational models, such as Large Eddy Simulations, Direct Numerical Simulations, and direct integration of chemistry, to gain a deeper understanding of the physical and chemical mechanisms involved in dual- and tri- fuel combustion processes. The impact of hydrogen-methane fuel combinations on critical aspects of ignition, flame initiation, flame front establishment, and combustion modes is examined, providing new insights into these processes. The findings of this research may contribute to the development of more sustainable and energy-efficient combustion technology. While the study's primary focus is not on emissions, it recognizes the importance of reducing harmful emissions and promoting a cleaner and healthier planet. Stakeholders interested in developing clean combustion technology may find this research relevant, and the findings may have significant implications for future technological advancements in this field.
