The Last Misfits by The Golden River / Aurinko laskee Lemmenjoella - with Q&A from the director! (Finnish with English subtitles)

"The Last Misfits by The Golden River" is a film about generational divides, the depths of the earth, and the end of worlds. The film follows the last gold miners living and working in the wilderness of Lapland.

The Film follows the life of a gold mining community in the remote wilderness of Lapland, beyond roads and phone networks. At the heart of the film are the youngest member of the community, Nils-Emil, and the oldest, Rami – they represent the past and the present, both coexisting in the wilderness. Everyone continues their life as before: searching for gold, playing cards and golf, until their quiet existence is disrupted by a mining law that threatens to end gold mining in the area. This pushes their lives in a new, unknown direction.

A poetic, bittersweet, universal film with a touch of quirky humor, it follows these people amid a time of great change. Change is present in the thoughts of the new generation, in the very soil itself, and in the possible end of the miners’ way of life.
