Alex Jung

I am Associate Professor for Machine Learning at Aalto University. My research develops trustworthy machine learning — federated learning, explainable AI, and fairness — built on a small set of unifying design principles. I am the author of two Springer textbooks, Machine Learning: The Basics (2022, translated into German and Greek) and Federated Learning: From Theory to Practice (2026), and creator of the open-access Dictionary of Applied Machine Learning. Free drafts, video lectures, and teaching materials are available at mlbook.aalto.fi, flbook.aalto.fi, and dictionaryofml.aalto.fi.
