Master's Programme in Advanced Energy Solutions

This site contains the student study guide for the Master's Programme in Advanced Energy Solutions. Here you will find the programme curriculum as well as detailed guidelines for planning your studies. All the materials and instructions are for the students in all the majors of the programme. The Master's Programme in Advanced Energy Solutions (AAE) is a two-year programme (120 ECTS) organized jointly by three Aalto schools: School of Chemical Engineering (CHEM), School of Electrical Engineering (ELEC) and School of Engineering (ENG). The programme is coordinated by the School of Engineering.

The programme offers four different majors. In each of them, students will be provided a solid theoretical background complemented with interdisciplinary studies to broaden and deepen the understanding of energy challenges in our society. The majors of the programme are (organizing school):

  • Industrial Energy Processes (CHEM)
  • Energy in Buildings and Built Environment (ENG)
  • Energy Conversion Processes (ENG)
  • Energy Systems and Markets (ELEC)

Bachelor students at Aalto University

If you are studying your bachelor's degree at Aalto University in a school of technology, you may continue to one of the Advanced Energy Solutions majors if you fulfil the requirements.

The Industrial Energy Processes and Sustainability major gives students a basic and advanced understanding of the industrial energy processes, outlines the main challenges energy solutions in industry are facing today, and introduces possible ways towards a sustainable future.

We are currently moving toward an energy system that is sustainable, smart and flexible. The energy transition requires new ways of thinking about energy, including its sources, production, markets, transmission and use. Energy in Buildings and Built Environment - Advanced Energy Solutions, Master of Science (Technology)

Did you know that buildings are currently responsible for 40 % of primary energy consumption and roughly half of electricity consumption?

If you want to address big societal issues such as global warming and healthy indoor climate, The Master’s Programme in Advanced Energy Solutions may be the perfect match for you. By studying the efficient use of energy in the fields of building technology and services as well as on the design of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, you will work with creating sustainable and comfortable indoor environments.
