The Department of Architecture is the largest of the three schools of architecture in Finland. The Department has an excellent research infrastructure with high-quality ICT- technologies and exceptional possibilities for multidisciplinarity. The Department of Architecture offers degree programmes in architecture, landscape architecture and interior architecture.
The degree programme of landscape architecture is the only one in its field in Finland. The degree programme includes three topics: 1. landscape desgin and construction, 2. landscape planning and management and 3. urban design and planning. The staff of landscape architecture consists of two professors in landscape design and construction and two professors in landscape planning and management, in addition to three lecturers. Lecturer in Landscape Architecture
The position is available at all levels of the AaltoUniversity lecturer track system: university teacher, lecturer or senior lecturer. The position is full-time and, depending on the positioning in the track, either fixed-term for 5 years or permanent. Lecturers have the possibility to advance in their career to a permanent position through a promotion review. Your role and goals
The position has an emphasis on Landscape Planning and Management. You will have an independent role in coordinating and organizing teaching of Landscape Planning and Management at the BA-level. The courses include following topics: the basics of landscape planning and management in urban and peri-urban contexts, landscape analysis, landscape ecology and natural factors, land use planning, forestry and field study. You also contribute to teaching planning and management courses in MA-level, related to e.g. landscape management, historical landscapes, environmental analysis and landscapes of production. You will also take part in the tutoring of students, curriculum design, development of teaching and in administrative tasks. The language of teaching at BA-level and most courses at MA-level is Finnish. Part of your work time can be allocated to your own academic activities and/or artistic work.
Your network and team
The staff at the Department of Architecture consists of leading academics and practitioners who have active research or professional careers. You will be working in a team of four professors and three lecturers in Landscape Architecture, plus hourly-paid teachers, administrative staff and other teaching and research staff of the department. Your closest collaborators are two other lecturers of landscape architecture and the head of the bachelor program, in addition to the professors of landscape planning and management. You will also collaborate with other lecturers of the department.
The position of university teacher and lecturer require a master´s degree in Landscape Architecture and the position of senior lecturer requires a doctoral degree in Landscape Architecture. You are expected to have a profound professional experience in the field with an emphasis on landscape planning and management. The knowledge of Finnish conditions of practising landscape architecture is obligatory. You have an enthusiastic mindset towards the field and wish to affect the future of landscape architecture profession in Finland. You are expected to have an artistic and practice-oriented approach to support your teaching and you possess good teaching skills in higher education. You have a deep interest in teaching and working with students. In addition, we appreciate candidates who have carried out pedagogical studies and show interest in pedagogy. As the courses at BA-level are taught in Finnish, the full command over the Finnish language is required. You also need to be fluent in English and have a proficiency in Swedish language. Furthermore, you are expected to have good communication skills and team-work abilities.
