Job description

The Professor will be responsible for research and education of HVAC technology at the Department of Energy Technology of Aalto University.

The Department of Energy Technology has a staff of 100 including about 50 researchers and 8 professors (http://energytech.aalto.fi/en/ ). The focus areas for research are thermodynamics and combustion technology and energy efficiency & systems. Minimization of the environmental load is common for all research. The department awards annually 40-50 Masters’ degrees and several PhD degrees. The professionals graduating from the department are highly valued on the labour market.

Preference is given to candidates whose research profiles complement the focus area of energy efficiency & systems. The research area of the professor includes HVAC systems of buildings, their operation, energy use and energy efficiency. Overall efficiency and economy of energy consumption and production systems in buildings are central research themes.


Throughout their careers, those in the academic tenure track system are expected to conduct and lead scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances in their fields, to serve the other functions of the Aalto University community, and to participate in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field.

-       Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in a relevant field.

-       The successful candidate must have demonstrated ability to teach and lead research.

-       The candidate must demonstrate research experience within the field of HVAC and energy technology.

The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching and academic leadership and activity in the scientific community. The evaluation of applicants will be supported by bibliometric analyses using e.g. ISI Web of Science.


Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities, but applicants may also provide salary requirements.
