Valtiotieteiden tohtori Pekka Mattila toimii käytäntöön suuntautuneena professorina (Professor of Practice) Aalto-yliopiston kauppakorkeakoulussa. Hän toimi Aalto University Executive Education konsernin toimitusjohtajana toukokuusta 2011 joulukuuhun 2021.

Pekka opettaa säännöllisesti yrityskohtaisesti räätälöidyissä ohjelmissa, Executive MBA - ja MBA-ohjelmissa sekä valikoiduissa avoimissa ohjelmissa niin Euroopassa, Aasiassa, Afrikassa kuin Pohjois-Amerikassa.

Pekka Mattilan erikoisalueita ovat ylimmän johdon työskentely, johtamisurat ja -kompetenssit, muutoksen johtaminen, strateginen johtajuus, strategian muotoilu, johtamisjärjestelmien kehittäminen, strateginen markkinointi sekä liiketoimintamalli-innovaatiot ja palvelujohtaminen. 

Yli kymmenen finanssialan kehitys- ja johtotehtävissä vietetyn vuoden jälkeen Pekka Mattila siirtyi 2008 markkinoinnin ja liikkeenjohdon konsultoinnin pariin. Viime vuosina hän on toiminut usean analytiikkaan, tutkimukseen sekä prosessien ja konseptien kehittämiseen suuntautuneen yrityksen hallituksen puheenjohtajana. Parhaillaan Mattila vaikuttaa esimerkiksi A-lehdet Oy:n , Aro Systems Oy:n, LIG:n ja Joutsen-yhtiön hallituksissa. Vuodesta 2012 syksyyn 2014 hän toimi myös merkittävän suomalaisen vähittäispankin hallituksessa.

Viime vuosina Pekka Mattila on julkaissut monipuolisesti erityisesti henkilökohtaisen johtajuuden, johtoryhmätyöskentelyn sekä muutoksen johtamisen ja strategisen markkinoinnin teemoista. Helsingin yliopistossa sosiologian alalla suoritettujen tutkintojen jälkeen hän syvensi liikkeenjohdon osaamistaan maineikkaassa London Business Schoolissa sekä New Yorkin Columbia Business Schoolissa. Mattila vierailee säännöllisesti opettajana johtavissa eurooppalaisissa ja aasialaisissa yliopistoissa ja korkeakouluissa.

Pekka Mattila on ollut aktiivinen julkisissa luottamustehtävissä vaikuttaen tällä hetkellä esimerkiksi Kansallisgallerian hallituksen jäsenenä. Vuosina 2009-2017 hän toimi Helsingin juhlaviikoista vastaavan säätiön hallituksen puheenjohtajana.

Vuosien mittaan Pekka Mattila on toiminut neuvonantajana ja valmentajana yli 410 pohjoismaiselle tai kansainväliselle suuryritykselle, keskeiselle julkisen sektorin organisaatiolle ja järjestölle. Hän on kansainvälisesti kysytty puhuja erilaisissa vaikuttajatapahtumissa ja seminaareissa.
