Non-discrimination and equality
Aalto University’s goal is to offer everyone an equal and non-discriminating working environment where people of all genders, positions and backgrounds are treated alike. The common objective is to ensure a good working and studying atmosphere. The equality work furthers also the long-lasting social and cultural development of Aalto University.
A successful implementation of equality and non-discrimination requires standardisation and mainstreaming; the Aalto values are transparent principles in all University practices. Every member of the university community has a responsibility to promote equality. The current Aalto University Equality Plan is in effect during 2016–2018.
- Statutory obligations: The Finnish law requires universities to actively promote the realisation of equality and non-discrimination when selecting both their students and personnel as well as organising the studies and work. Teaching, teaching materials and research must also encourage these values. (Act on Equality between Women and Men 609/1986 English and Non-discrimination Act 1325/2014 English).
