Basic information*

  • Language: choose the primary language (editing language) for the article (English / Finnish / Swedish). You can create other language versions later.
  • Title: Give a headline for the article/page. Start with the most important keywords and summarize the content, since many of the links are shared nowadays online without reading the actual writing.
  • Summary*: write a short introduction about the article (this will be shown when the article is lifted up somewhere across the site). Summary should complement the headline – tell the most important points in the beginning. Avoid jargon and difficult terminology.
  • Main image: add an appealing main image for the article (don't use a picture that includes text e.g. infographic as a main image). Choose a picture that supports the article content.

Content home

  • Every article page has one home – one hub – where it's living. This is the place where you edit the text. Choose the best one to describe your content. If you don't know which one to choose, you can contact Aalto Communications.

Relates to

  • If your article is related to other hubs as well, by using “Relates to” option (adding additional relations to hubs and/or research groups) you will tell this information to the Drupal content management system.

Please notice!
"Content home" and "Relates to" options does not liftup the article to those places yet. To make the article visible in a hub/research group page, after creating the article, go back to the hub/research group page to create the actual article liftups.

Primary tags

  • Primary tag is a top level tag, a key word to describe the news article's content. You will see primary tag(s) below the article title on the page.
  • Choose the ones that best describe your content, the recommended amount is 1–3.
  • Primary tags are a relatively short list of key themes in Aalto. Governance of primary tags is done by Aalto Communications.
  • Using primary tags is important because they support the search on

Secondary tags

  • Secondary tags are for more detailed tags, keywords to describe the article.
  • Choose 1–3, the ones that best describe your content.
  • At this point there are about 1000 secondary tags on
  • The library of secondary tags is governed by Aalto Communications for now. So if you have suggestions for relevant secondary tags, contact: [email protected]

Creating the article

You can use various components for creating articles:

  • Always begin the new article with Lead text component – it's your article's introduction on the article page: an introduction to complement the headline, the most important content in the beginning and the necessary background information towards the end. Avoid jargon and difficult terminology, explain if needed. You can use Summary field's text, but usually this Lead text is a bit longer, 3–4 sentences.
  • Then choose Text paragraph component to write the actual article.
  • Continue with the components of your choice (you can always benchmark the structure of great article pages)

If this article page is for Aalto community/Aalto ID only, choose "Role restrictions": Aalto Autentikoitu.
If it's public for everyone, leave this field empty.

Finally, publish and save the article by clicking on "Save".
(If after publishing the article you decide, that you want to unpublish it, click on "Unpublish" tab above the article.)

Create translations for the article by using "Translate" tab above the article.
