Description

I am a Professor of Entrepreneurship in Aalto BIZ since 1 January 2014. In addition to being the coordinator of the Unit of Entrepreneurship, I am also the Head of the Department of Management Studies since 1 September 2016 and the Academic Director of the university-wide entrepreneurship platform since 1 January 2018.

My research combines economic and psychological perspectives to entrepreneurship. While I appreciate diverse methods of empirical enquiry, my own research has a strong quantitative focus. In fact, it would not be unfair to say that the application of econometric techniques is one of my little passions as a researcher.

My principal current research topics include:

- entrepreneurship and population ageing

- the role of trust in the financial relationships of SMEs

- the psychological processes involved in the translation of entrepreneurial intentions into actions

I have published more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals including Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Venturing, Small Business Economics, Regional Studies, Journal of Economic Psychology, Harvard Business Review, and many others.

In addition to being an active ad hoc reviewer for a broad range of academic journals, I am an editorial board member of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour & Research, International Small Business Journal, Journal of Business Venturing and Journal of Trust Research. Further, I served three years as a Consulting Editor of the International Small Business Journal (2014-2016).

I endeavour to collaborate with policy makers and practitioners, including advising (previously and/or currently) ministries in Finland and Germany as well as ILO, the OECD, the European Commission and Eurostat on enterprise policy matters.
