Arun is working on Deterministic evaluation of functional safety of ships and floating structures by Advanced Hydroelastic Methods. His work focuses on coupling CFD/RANS and FEA to predict the hydroelastic behaviour of ships in waves. His focus is mainly on the springing and whipping behaviour of ships in waves and to accurately predict the nonlinearities associated with them.


Arun worked as a Research Fellow in the Fluid Structure Interactions Group at the University of Southampton from 2016-2019. During this period his research focused on investigating models of ship performance and fuel efficiency in weather and approaches to test and develop those using in-service operational data. He started his PhD in 2013 in Fluid Structure Interactions Research Group at the University of Southampton and was awarded a PhD degree in 2017. His thesis 'Application of 3D-CFD modelling to predict dynamic behaviour of ship in waves' investigated two-way coupling between CFD/RANS and FEA software to model the the fluid-structure interactions of flexible ships in waves.

Arun has also worked in the industry as a Marine engineer on Oil Tankers for 5 years. After completion of his Masters he worked as a structural analyst in GTR Cambell (India office). He was involved in finite element analysis and vibration analysis of a 37.5 K bulk carriers and a fast patrol vessel for Indian Coast Guard.
