Research Assistant in Self-Healing Hydrogels

Department of Applied Physics invites applications for

Research Assistant position in self-healing hydrogels

A research assistant position for a master’s thesis work in self-healing hydrogels is available at the group of Molecular Materials (Prof. Olli Ikkala), Department of Applied Physics (School of Science) at Aalto University. Our research focuses on developing materials with novel functionalities, designed from the molecular level. More information about our group can be found in:

REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for a research assistant to work with us on the synthesis and characterization of novel self-healing hydrogels, involving radical polymerization and mechanical/rheological testing of the materials. The goal is to develop a novel type of hydrogel that can self-heal rapidly after damage, by finding the optimal composition of the system.

We offer a highly interdisciplinary working environment, with challenging and interesting topics related to hydrogel, biomimetic materials, liquid crystals, etc. In return, we would like the ideal candidate to have:

  • Suitable experiences in related fields, e.g. basic knowledge in chemical synthesis and material characterization techniques, experiences in a chemistry lab etc.
  • Excellent study record
  • Good English & team working skills

Background in chemistry or material sciences background is valued in the evaluation process, especially earlier experience with polymers is appreciated. Applicants with a strong motivation to learn new things are valued, even from a different background.

READY TO APPLY

Candidates should send the following documents (all in English) as a single pdf-file.

  • Application
  • CV (max. one page)
  • Highest degree certificate and study transcripts
  • Contact information for references (two) or other supporting material

Apply through the link "Apply now" at the bottom of the page.
