About the Department

The Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering (NBE) aims at understanding of system-level dynamic functions of the human brain, mind and body. The research, enabled by state-of-the-art technology and computational methods, leads to discoveries and technological breakthroughs that contribute to health and wellbeing.

NBE brings together systems and cognitive neuroscience, biophysics, and biomedical engineering. The levels of description range from molecular and cellular measures to noninvasive neuroimaging and behaviour. New generations of multidisciplinary scientists and engineers are educated by engaging them with cutting-edge science and technology.

The Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering was formed 01 January 2015. It combines the former Department of Biomedical Engineering and Computational Science and the Brain Research Unit of the O.V. Lounasmaa Laboratory.

Deadline for applications is 28 January 2020 23:59 (UTC+2). The application must be submitted using the Saima recruitment portal and contain the following attachments (PDF): Applicant's CV including name(s) and contact details of referee(s), a copy of the current Academic transcript of records (an unofficial one generated as self-service is acceptable), and a Motivation letter. Please address every project that you are applying to in your Motivation letter and refer to the topic numbers on our website. 

You must not submit more than one application to this call, however you may apply to several projects using that one application. On the Saima application form, you will be asked to nominate at least one (1) project that you wish to apply to. If applying to several projects, give topic numbers in order of preference. Example: if your first preference is project 18, second preference is project 19 and third preference is project 20, then you need to enter 18, 19, 20 into the free-text field (numbers should be separated by a comma and a space). 

The department will collaborate with Plätty to organize an info session about the summer jobs, where you can come meet the research groups and hear details about the projects. The info session will be on Thursday 23 January 2020 at 4-8 pm in F239a, Otakaari 3. The separate info session regarding ConnectToBrain-project info is on Wednesday 15 January 2020 at 2.15-4 pm in F336, Rakentajanaukio 2C.

Job offers to successful applicants will be made no earlier than 11 February 2020.
