M.Sc. Thesis Worker on autonomous robotic instruments

Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation is a part of Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. A M.Sc. thesis position on autonomous robotic instruments is opened for Robotic Instruments Group ( at the department.

Recently, soft matter manipulation is increasingly attracting attention due to the commercial significance of products that are complex mixtures of components in many application fields such as, soft macro/micro-robotics, water collection, medical diagnostics, and drug delivery.

The future M.Sc. thesis worker  will work on the development of a robotic system including hardware and software dedicated to the manipulation of the gel-like substance.  The objective is to manipulate a gel-like substance  through  shape forming using visual serving.

The salary is based on the university salary scheme.

Requirements and details

As a successful applicant you should be highly motivated in developing practical systems and have a background in one or several of the following fields: robotics and automation, automation software, software engineering, or closely related fields. The applicant is expected to have strong programming skills, hands-on experience and willing to work with robotics and mechatronic systems. Previous experience in one or some of the following areas is appreciated:

-          Software design (e.g., C++/C#, Matlab, Python)

-          Mechatronic design and measurements

-          Visual serving
