Master’s thesis / Research assistant position in DNA engineered hydrogels

Aalto University is a community of bold thinkers where science and art meet technology and business. We are committed to identifying and solving grand societal challenges and building an innovative future. Aalto has six schools with nearly 11 000 students and a staff of more than 4000, of which 400 are professors. Our main campus is located in Espoo, Finland. Diversity is part of who we are, and we actively work to ensure our community’s diversity and inclusiveness in the future as well. This is why we warmly encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to join our community.

Master’s thesis / Research assistant position

Molecular Nanoengineering group at the Department of Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering, Aalto University (Finland), is looking for a motivated student to join the group as a master’s thesis candidate and/or research assistant. The student will carry out experimental interdisciplinary research on DNA engineered hydrogels for chiral plasmonics in a multidisciplinary and international environment with excellent instrumentation and facilities.

Qualifications

An ideal candidate has a solid background in, for example, chemical engineering, nanotechnology, or physical chemistry. Previous experience with polymer characterization (Rheology and mechanical characterization) and microscopy (TEM and SEM) is an advantage but not required. The position does require good communication skills in written and spoken English.

Information about the research group

The Molecular Nanoengineering group (led by Associate Prof. Anton Kuzyk) at the Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering Department (SCI) operates at the interface between nanoscience, molecular self-assembly, DNA nanotechnology and plasmonics with focus on DNA-based artificial molecular systems with functionalities tailored for biosensing, nanophotonics and biomimetics.
