Master’s thesis position in Active Matter

A Master’s thesis position in robotic manipulation at air-liquid interfaces is available at Active Matter group, Department of Applied Physics (School of Science) at Aalto University. In general, our research focuses on investigating the behavior of biological micro/milliswimmers in complex environments and interfaces. We also develop, engineer and synthesize artificial systems that mimic naturally occurring active materials.

Your role and goals

We are looking for a Master’s student to work with us on robotic manipulation of micrometer-sized particles on air-liquid interfaces. Your will be conducting experimental studies on manipulating objects at air-liquid interfaces by using robotic systems.

Your experience and ambitions

We offer a high-tech working environment, with challenging and interesting topics related to advanced materials, micro and nanomanipulation, self-assembly, electromagnetic microtweezers. In return, we would like the student to have:

• Suitable studies (experimental) in related fields such as applied physics or engineering

• Excellent study record

• Good English & team working skills
