Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis (http://math.aalto.fi/en/) at Aalto University invites applications from talented individuals for a lecturer track position in mathematics and statistics. The post will be filled on a fixed term or permanent basis at the University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer level on the Aalto University lecturer track depending on the competence and merits of the applicant.
The main research areas of the department are:
- Algebra and discrete mathematics,
- Analysis and nonlinear partial differential equations,
- Numerical analysis,
- Stochastics, statistics and mathematical physics,
- Systems and operations research.

An applicant is expected to hold a doctoral degree in mathematics, operations research, statistics, or a related discipline and to have actively continued scientific research since gaining the degree. The ability and enthusiasm to teach relevant courses on the bachelor’s level are central requirements. Experience in online and computer-aided teaching is considered an advantage.
Excellent written and spoken English is essential. Moreover, the ability to teach in Finnish within two years after the appointment is a central requirement since many bachelor’s level courses offered by the department are in Finnish. If an applicant cannot yet teach in Finnish, a credible plan on how a sufficient level of proficiency is reached in two years must be included as an appendix to the application.

University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer in the lecturer track system of Aalto University is expected to teach and otherwise advance academic education, to participate in research activities, to display pedagogical leadership, and to be an active member of the scientific community. Career advancements on the lecturer track are based on scheduled performance assessments that take into account the candidate’s merits in all these areas.
Salary and working time
The salary will be determined upon the competence and experience of the selected candidate following the salary system of the Finnish universities. Teaching personnel belong to the total working hours system, and they work for 1612 hours annually. Aalto University provides health care and retirement benefits.
The starting date for the position is negotiable, but being able to start before August 15, 2021 is considered an advantage.
